VISION of Whole Fitness:

To bring Good News and freedom to the captives through fitness.

For the Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free. Luke 4:18 (NLT)

Your Worth: The Image of God in Man

“Friend, I want to begin by telling you that your worth is not found in your physical appearance. Your worth is not determined by what others say about your appearance. You have worth because you were created in the image of God. When man was created, he was created in the image of God, after His likeness (Genesis 1:26). The image of God can be seen in man multiple ways:

  • Volitionally: Man is able to make decisions, to choose, and recognize good from bad.

  • Intellectually, man is able to reason and think intellectually; he does not simply operate out of instincts like animals, but reasons and uses memory.

  • Emotionally: God is able to display various emotions (though perfectly, unlike humans) such as anger (Deuteronomy 9:8), delight (Psalm 147:11), or grief (Ephesians 4:30), and man likewise experiences emotions.

  • Relationally: God lives in perfect relationship within the Trinity, likewise man lives in relationship with other humans and can be reconciled to a right relationship with God.

  • Operatively: Man is able to create, do good works, and have dominion over the earth in similar ways that God does.

This is why you are fearfully and wonderfully made–not because you look a certain way, but because you were made in the image of God. He is awesome and wonderful, and the fact that you were created in His image makes you fearfully and wonderfully made (see Psalm 139:14). Why does God command we do not murder? Because people are made in the image of God (Genesis 9:6). We can kill animals to eat, because they were not made in His image. But you, you have the breath of God in you and you bear His image. This is where your worth is found. Your Goal: The Image of Christ in You.” - Daily Grace

Whole Fitness Class Layout for September and October:

Week 1: Introduction

Week 2: Ch. 1 - The Body Matters

“The goal of this study is to help us learn why the body matters to the Lord and how we should care for the bodies He has entrusted to us in order that we may fulfill His purposes.” -Cole

“Her (and his - me adding) body reflected the needs of the community.” - Cole

Week 3: Ch. 2 - The Truth of the Body

“Our bodies are not just our own outward personal expression to the world; they are instruments God intends to use to accomplish His purposes and to bring Him glory.” - Cole

Week 4: Ch. 3 - Diseased Vision

"Women are so unforgiving of themselves. We don't recognize our own beauty because we're too busy comparing ourselves to other people. One of the easiest ways to feel bad about oneself is to compare yourself unfavorably to others." - Psychology Today Magazine

“You were created in the image of God; therefore, your body has value. Your body may be broken and corrupted, but that does not render you valueless. Your body is a temple. God lives in you, and that gives you value beyond any other gift. And your body is immortal, which gives you value here and now, not just there and then.” - Cole

Week 5: Ch. 4 - Exposing Our Idols

Idol - anything that we ascribe value to above God.

“It is taking a good thing and make it into an ultimate thing, elevating it to god-like status.” - Cole

What do you think about the most? This is where you will find your idol.

“The question is not IF we will worship but WHO or WHAT we will worship.” - Alisa Keeton

CHALLENGE: Fasting. What do you need to fast from that keeps you from worshiping God? What do you need to let go to allow you to dive deeper in communion with the Father? (If you have or struggle with an eating disorder, I recommend to NOT fast from food.)

Week 6: Ch. 5 - Faithful Stewardship

“Your physical body is inextricably linked to your spiritual worship.” - Cole

This is our get to and not our have to. We get to take care of the body He has given us so we can do what He is calling us to do. This is worship!

Week 7: Ch. 6 - A Worthy Beauty

“Beauty is mysterious as well as terrible” because “God and the devil are fighting there and the battlefield is the heart of man.” - Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Week 8: Ch. 7 - Cultivating a Thankful Heart

“An unsatisfied heart is easily deceived.” - Cole

“Thou that hast giv’n so much to me,

Give one thing more, a grateful heart…

Not thankful, when it pleaseth me;

As if thy blessings had spare dayes:

But such a heart, whose pulse may be

Thy praise.” - George Hubert
